The Trustees of Necton Area Trust decided in December 2025 to close NAT having achieved its beacon project to assist Necton Parish Council in transforming the old Marlpit into a community woodland, renamed as Queen Elizabeth Memorial Wood.

This woodland was officially opened to the public on 3rd June 2023.

Since then, NAT volunteers supported maintenance and enhancements within the woodland and elsewhere around the village of Necton. Sadly, volunteer numbers have dwindled, and we have struggled to secure new trustees to replace outgoing trustees needing to retire.

The objective of NAT was to enhance the natural environment of Necton and have transferred our remaining funds, fundraised for that purpose, to Necton Parish Council, who will use this money to continue enhancing Necton’s green spaces.

Thank you to everybody who supported our vision and activities over the past six years. Your support with donations of time and money has helped transform what was an old gravel pit into a wonderful public woodland right here in the village.
