The sun shone on the many local residents and invited guests who witnessed the momentous occasion of the opening of Queen Elizabeth Memorial Wood in Necton on 3 June 2023.
Mid-Norfolk MP, George Freeman, cut the ribbon and declared the woodland open. He also praised the strong local community dedication that brought this once neglected dumping ground into what is now a valuable village asset, a green haven for people and wildlife, an outdoor resource for schoolchildren and a potential venue for artistic and natural craft events.
The Revd Stephen Thorp gave a spiritual blessing and short prayer in gratitude for this new calming woodland space that it provides peace and enjoyment for present and future generations of Necton residents, families and friends.
A video of the highlights of this wonderful day were captured by Ruth Thorp.
Community reporter and NAT Trustee, Paul Young, spoke to a number of people to capture their thoughts of the day. Listen to his report.
