Spring sprung the NATTY team into action this weekend at the QEM wood, with the good weather allowing many tasks to be completed.

Last year, NAT saved a little bit of village history, and transported it to the wood, with help from volunteers and local organisations. The story of this project is documented on our website. This weekend's fine weather enabled the team to finish off the school mural wall by installing capping stones along the top.

These provide a good finish, and importantly help protect the mural from weather damage.

Unfortunately, the wood has suffered from some antisocial behaviour over recent months, so Necton Parish Council (the owner of this community space) took the decision to install CCTV in efforts to keep this lovely community wood enjoyable for everybody. Signage at the entrance alerts visitors.

Last year, local councillor, Thirza Hicks, donated eight colourful whimsical fairy doors, beautifully made by Avenue Woodwork, to the QEM wood. These were purchased from monies raised through from quiz and bingo nights that Thirza organises (details of regular dates for these events are in The Link). The first of these doors was installed this weekend in an obvious place. The remaining doors will be located in more imaginative locations, adding a little mystery and fun for younger visitors who might like to find them.

In the final task this weekend, the post upon which a new wooden sign directing visitors to the wood, was installed at the corner of the grass path leading to the wood gates. The actual sign will be fitted soon.

Completion of these tasks was only possible with the generosity of our NAT team of trustees and volunteers who freely give time, expertise and donations of materials and equipment.
